Hudson, NY – October 1, 2020 - Mulhern Gas Company, Inc. of Hudson, NY is pleased to announce that the company’s Vice President, Richard “Rick” Cummings III, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the National Propane Gas Association (NPGA).

Cummings was appointed at the NPGA’s September 30th Board of Directors’ Meeting and will serve as New York State’s official representative to this nationwide trade organization. He has previously served in multiple roles with the New York Propane Gas Association (NYPGA), including a term as the organization’s President from 2014 to 2016. Cummings currently serves as Legislative Committee Chairman of the NYPGA, a position he has held for over 15 years.

The National Propane Gas Association (NPGA) is the national trade association based in Washington DC, representing the U.S. propane industry. Its membership includes small businesses and large corporations engaged in the retail marketing of propane gas and appliances; producers and wholesalers of propane equipment; manufacturers and distributors of propane gas appliances and equipment; fabricators of propane gas cylinders and tanks; and propane transporters. With a membership of approximately 2,800 companies in all 50 states, 38 affiliated state or regional associations, and members in 19 foreign countries, NPGA represents every segment of the propane industry.

Mulhern Gas is a full-service propane dealer located in Hudson, NY. Established in 1918, Mulhern has been continuously operated by five generations of the Cummings family. Mulhern Gas serves the propane needs of over 2000 residential and commercial customers in the counties of Columbia, Greene, Dutchess, Rensselear, Albany and Ulster. The firm prides its self on providing dedicated, professional, and reliable service. In 2008, Mulhern Gas was awarded the prestigious “Award of Excellence” by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

“As propane continues to grow in importance as an energy source in the Northeast, I am honored to have been selected by the NPGA to represent the needs of the New York propane industry and our customers in Washington,” says Cummings, “My involvement with the NPGA is a natural extension of the commitment my family made to the propane industry so many years ago.”

“Right now, throughout the country, the future of energy – and its potential impact on the environment – is taking shape. In Washington, our representatives are looking for energy solutions that are more innovative, reliable, efficient and affordable than the status quo. Climate change and global warming concerns will influence what energies are tapped as clean energies worthy our attention, while others will be taken out of favor. Clean burning propane needs to be part of this discussion.”

“The propane industry has a great story to tell,” Cummings says, “It’s abundant, clean, economical, and nearly 100% domestically produced. It’s not surprising that the growth of the propane industry in New York has been so remarkable, especially as more and more homeowners turn to propane for home heating.”
